
In the Kyiv region, a radiation shelter has been built at the Novopetrivske Lyceum. The structure is designed for over 650 people — all students and employees of the institution. It can be used by community residents after school hours.
This was announced by the head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, Mykola Kalashnyk, and the head of the Petriv village, Radion Starenkyi.
It is noted that the total area of the shelter is 535 m². Construction began at the end of December 2024 with funding from the Belgian agency Enabel. Currently, the shelter is equipped with a fire alarm, video surveillance and ventilation. It has a small kitchen, a medical care area, a bathroom, a boiler room and two large rooms for children. The shelter space is inclusive, in particular, there is a lift for people with disabilities.

“For the children of this lyceum, this is a long-awaited event. For four years, they actually did not have the opportunity to study in full format – students in grades 5-11 studied remotely due to the lack of proper shelter,” Kalashnyk informed.

He also reported that equipment for STEM laboratories was purchased at the expense of the regional budget. Specialized learning space in educational institutions, equipped with modern tools, robotics, 3D printers, and software . We also agreed with the community to co-finance the modernization of the cafeteria so that the institution can function fully and comprehensively.
It was previously reported that a delegation from Japan visited the Kyiv region. The Japanese want to join the development of security infrastructure. In particular, they are interested in creating a pilot project for a shelter for 150 people.
