“We managed to run out into the corridor in a few seconds and that probably saved us”: what Kyiv residents say about the Russian attack they experienced

On the night of April 16, the Russian army launched a combined strike on Kyiv with ballistic missiles and drones. According to the city prosecutor's office and the KMVA, four people were killed. Among them was a child. Another 60 were injured. Destruction in the Podilskyi, Obolonskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, and Desnyanskyi districts of the capital.

In the Podilskyi district of Kyiv , according to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, There is extensive damage . Two people died, including a 12-year-old child. They were found under the rubble of one of the destroyed houses.

There is also a hit on the 6th floor of a sixteen-story building, 10 people were evacuated, and there is destruction of the facade of two hotels and adjacent buildings.

A one-story residential building in the Podilskyi district was also damaged. Two people were rescued from the rubble, including a child.

Correspondents of Suspilny spoke with local residents of the Podilskyi district. Serhiy said that there was a very strong explosion, then another one.

“We managed to run out into the corridor in just a few seconds, and that probably saved us, because everything flew out. All the windows flew out completely. We're alive. We just got a little bit of glass,” the man said.

“My daughter was in a hotel with her son-in-law. They were taken away by ambulance. She has severe cuts, a knee injury. He has a leg and head, they took them to be stitched up,” said Tetyana, a resident of a damaged house in Kyiv.

Tetyana noted that she and her dog were scared after a series of explosions, and she still can't find her cats at home. In her apartment, the windows on one side of the house were blown out by the blast wave, while on the other side they survived, although they were damaged and now do not close.

“The windows were blown out and now they don't close, but it's good that at least the doors close, because the neighbors who live three floors above had their windows blown out and the doors don't close, even the entrance doors, they fell into the middle of the apartment from the blast wave,” said Tetyana, a resident of a damaged apartment in the Podilskyi district.

As of 7 a.m., fires were still burning in some locations in the Podilskyi district as a result of the Russian attack. Rescuers were working on the scene. By that time, all fires in residential buildings had already been extinguished.

As reported by the Kyiv City State Administration, headquarters have been deployed in the Podilskyi district to assist those affected by the Russian attack.

According to updated data from the Kyiv police as of 10:09: the number of injured in Kyiv has increased to 56 people. Two of them are children, 9 and 16 years old. Four people died. Among them is a 12-year-old child and a woman in the Podilskyi district, two more car dealership security guards died in Obolon. Among the injured are three police officers, four medics, and two foreigners.

In total, 17 high-rise buildings, 10 private houses, a hotel, an office center, a car dealership, a gas station, and a shopping mall were damaged in Kyiv during the attack.
