The rector of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Volodymyr Bugrov, was dismissed from his position due to the termination of his contract.
This was reported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in a comment to the Public.
The department noted that cooperation with Bugrov is ending precisely due to the expiration of the contract.
The Ministry of Education and Science has not yet received the full text of the court decision, so they cannot comment on whether there are legal grounds that could limit his participation in the upcoming rector elections.
After the termination of the powers of the head of the university, a person will be determined who will temporarily perform the duties of the rector of KNU.
What preceded this?
The contract of the Ministry of Education with the rector of KNU, Volodymyr Bugrov, ends on April 29, 2026.
Earlier, the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption reported violations in Bugrov's declaration amounting to about 900 thousand hryvnias. Subsequently, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv found that he had not declared the Volkswagen Golf he was using and imposed a fine of 17 thousand hryvnias.
Bugrov appealed this decision, but the Kyiv Court of Appeal left it unchanged. Bugrov also said that he would run for rector again if he wins the appeal.
At the same time, students went on a protest due to scandals related to the university's leadership.
