Law enforcement officers reported the suspicion to a Kyiv resident who, according to investigators, promised to help a conscript travel abroad outside the checkpoint. In return, he asked for $13,000.
This was reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
According to the case materials, the suspect is engaged in the delivery of cars from European countries and has an official permit to travel abroad. He told the conscript that he knew where the “weak spots” were on the border, and promised to help him leave. For $13,000, the man was supposed to be taken to the Transcarpathian region, checked into a hotel, and waited for a suitable opportunity to cross the border outside the checkpoint.
While receiving the funds, the suspect was detained, the prosecutor's office reported. The man's actions were classified under Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – organization of illegal smuggling of persons across the state border of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for up to 8 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
On February 20, it was reported that law enforcement officers in Kyiv had charged a 26-year-old man with organizing the departure of men liable for military service to Moldova. According to investigators, the young man offered to leave Ukraine in two ways: as part of a football team or to cross the border on foot.
