In the Kyiv region, law enforcement officers have served suspicions on the former head of a district court, three lawyers, the head of a condominium association, and their accomplice. They are accused of appropriating a deceased woman's apartment.
This was reported by the Prosecutor General's Office.
This is about the events of 2020. After the death of a woman who had no heirs, her apartment in Kyiv was supposed to go to the territorial community. But the accomplices, according to the investigation, decided to profit from the deceased.
“They organized the submission to the court of a knowingly false lawsuit for recognition of ownership of the apartment. The lawsuit was filed by a man who had no relationship to the deceased or her property, but the suspects provided false information about his residence with the woman and the presence of a house in the city of Skvyra, which actually belongs to another person,” the report says.
In March 2021, the court granted the claim, after which ownership of the apartment was registered under the “heir.” The apartment was then sold for $34,500.
The former court chairman is now charged with aiding and abetting fraud, official forgery, and illegal interference with the operation of automated systems. Three lawyers and the head of the condominium association are charged with aiding and abetting fraud and legalization of property. The fictitious plaintiff is charged with fraud and legalization of property.
“Measures are also being taken to return illegally alienated property to the territorial community,” the Prosecutor General's Office said.
The suspects face up to eight years in prison.
In February 2026, the capital's law enforcement officers announced that they had completed the investigation and submitted the case materials to the court regarding a 48-year-old resident of Chernihiv region. The man is accused of forging a will to inherit an apartment in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv worth over two million hryvnias.
