Russian singer-propagandist Grigory Lepsveridze (better known as Leps) is accused of financing the Russian Federation's war against Ukraine and justifying aggression.
What is known about Leps' crimes?
According to the investigation, Leps openly supports the Russian invasion of Ukraine and financially assists the occupation forces. One of the pieces of evidence was his public address after a concert in the summer of 2023, where he stated that he would pay the Russians 1 million rubles for each destroyed Ukrainian tank.
It was also established that he systematically provided the invaders with material assistance in the form of:
- bulletproof vests;
- underwear for the occupiers;
- food products.
Leps regularly spoke about his “help” to the Russian military in propaganda interviews.
What accusations did the SBU make?
Based on the collected evidence, investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine in absentia informed Leps of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- Part 3 of Article 110-2 – financing of actions aimed at overthrowing the constitutional order or seizing state power, changing the boundaries of the territory or borders of Ukraine;
- Part 3 of Article 436-2 – justification of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation, denial of war and glorification of the occupiers.
What's next?
Since the suspect is hiding in Russia, the SBU is taking measures to pursue him internationally and bring him to justice.
The investigation was conducted by SBU officers in the Ternopil region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.
