The capital's gymnasium “Kyivska Rus” was temporarily closed due to the building being in disrepair, and students were transferred to distance learning. Parents and teachers came to the Darnytsia Regional State Administration to find out the school's future fate.
A correspondent from Suspilny attended the meeting.
After the winter break, the children never returned to full-time studies at the gymnasium. At first, the distance learning was explained by the low temperature in the room, later by problems with the tiles on the floor and the need to inspect the building. However, last week, the school still had clubs.
“This is a boxing section, gymnastics, a swimming pool. When the electricity situation stabilized, there was another explanation, that there were problems with the tiles at the school. To protect children from injury, the school cannot start in-person classes. And they still keep saying: tiles, tiles, tiles,” says Anatoliy Gumenchuk, the father of a ninth-grader.

The Kyivan Rus Gymnasium was opened in 2013 and has about 1,500 students.
Last year, experts from the research institute discovered emergency areas in the school building. Due to the heating situation, their condition deteriorated significantly, so studies at the school were temporarily suspended.
“During the last survey, together with the research institute, experts said that it is dangerous for children to be at school,” said Oleksandr Kovtunov, head of the Darnytsia Regional State Administration, at the meeting.
TEB and Emergency Committee The Commission on Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergency Situations decided to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the premises. After that, they will determine whether the building can be partially operated and what repairs need to be carried out. The RDA plans to apply to the city for funding.
The developer's actions will be evaluated by law enforcement. Parents were offered the option of transferring their children to other schools for in-person education, if they so desire.

The RDA also assured that the gymnasium will remain in municipal ownership and will not be transferred to private use.
Meanwhile, Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi answered Suspilny's question about the gymnasium at a press conference: the ministry requested detailed information.
“If the fact of the accident is now confirmed to us by documents, local governments, of course, are responsible for everything that happens there. Of course, the safety of children is number one,” said Lisovyi.
