In Kyiv, more than 300 schools, almost 80% of the total number, operate in a full-time format.
This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv City State Administration with reference to the Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, Valentyn Mondryivskyi.
It is noted that students study full-time in 323 general secondary education institutions. 50 schools operate in a mixed mode, 37 – remotely.
“In early February, due to massive attacks on energy infrastructure and shutdowns of heat and electricity supplies, only 38% of schools were fully operational. The gradual restoration of heat supply allowed most students to return to classes,” said Mondryivskyi.
According to him, almost 160,000 schoolchildren are studying in person — two-thirds of the total number of students. 35 secondary education institutions have organized two-shift training to provide the maximum number of children with the opportunity to receive education offline.
The Kyiv City State Administration noted that schools are quickly changing their work format depending on the security situation and the state of infrastructure. The priority remains the return of students to in-person education, provided that security requirements are met.
What is known about studying in Kyiv schools?
As of February 19, 14% of Kyiv's educational institutions, including 62 schools, were without heating. In some of these schools, students were studying remotely. The so-called educational migration to institutions with heating was also introduced.
On February 9, it was reported that some kindergartens and schools in Kyiv are being merged due to problems with heating. This model is being used in the Holosiivskyi, Darnytskyi, Dniprovskyi, and Solomyanskyi districts. Pupils from individual kindergartens are being temporarily transferred to kindergartens with heating.
On February 6, the Kyiv City State Administration reported that about 45% of educational institutions in the Darnytskyi and Dniprovskyi districts of Kyiv, which were left without heating, will work remotely during the period of restoration of the CHPP-4 damaged by shelling.
On February 2, almost 110 thousand Kyiv schoolchildren returned to full-time education after the holidays. This is 41.6% of the total number of schoolchildren in the city. Almost 77 thousand schoolchildren, or 29.1%, chose distance learning. On individual form — 27.1 thousand students, which is 10.3%. Another 50.3 thousand children or 19% were absent from schools due to illness or family circumstances.
In total, almost 264 thousand students study in Kyiv schools, including 18.4 thousand first-graders.
Last November, it was reported that Kyiv had the largest student population of any region. The capital also had one of the highest rates of full-time education: 98% of students in the capital's municipal schools attended classes in class. The only other region with a higher rate was Lviv Oblast, which had 99.5%.
