In Kyiv, applications for first-grade classes for the 2026/2027 academic year will begin on April 1. The capital's schools are expecting almost 20,000 first-graders.
This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv City State Administration with reference to the Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, Valentyn Mondryivskyi.
It is noted that parents of prospective students can choose the format for submitting documents:
- in person at school
- remotely through the information and communication system Services Portal, using the “Enroll a child in school” service
- by email to the address of the selected educational institution.
“The priority for primary enrollment remains the family's residence in the service area of the relevant school. Children whose brothers and/or sisters are already studying at this institution, children of school employees, and graduates of its preschool division are also enrolled first,” the report says.
Applications can be submitted until June 1st.
The Kyiv City State Administration reminds that automated security and video surveillance have been implemented in schools, and stable internet access has been provided in shelters. At the same time, damaged infrastructure is being restored to create safe conditions for in-person learning.
Currently, almost 264 thousand students study in Kyiv schools, including 18.4 thousand first-graders.
Last November, it was reported that Kyiv had the largest student population of any region. The capital also had one of the highest rates of full-time education: 98% of students in the capital's municipal schools attended classes in class. The only other region with a higher rate was Lviv Oblast, which had 99.5%.
