Based on the results of public hearings, the Buchanan City Council appealed to the Ministry of Education. The issue is about expanding the network of lyceums in the community as part of the educational reform, which will come into effect on September 1, 2027.
This was announced by Buchanan City Mayor Anatoliy Fedoruk.
It is noted that two lyceums have currently been approved in Bucha — based on schools No. 5 and No. 3. At the same time, the community wants to expand the system and provide the opportunity to form specialized grades 10–12 also in lyceums No. 9 and No. 4.
“This will simplify logistics for many families, reduce the overload of individual institutions, and provide more opportunities for choosing a study profile. These were the requests voiced by the majority of parents and students during public hearings,” the report says.
As for rural schools, they will all operate as gymnasiums, that is, from grades 1 to 9. High school students will be provided with full transportation to lyceums so that they have equal access to specialized education.
Teenagers will have the opportunity to consciously choose a profile – humanitarian, mathematical, natural or other direction. High school will become more practical and oriented towards a future profession, with deeper study of selected subjects instead of “a little bit of everything,” Fedoruk noted.
From September 1, 2027, a new stage of the “New Ukrainian School” reform will start in Ukraine. All schools that receive the status of academic lyceums will switch to specialized education in senior grades. Grades 10-12 will become preparation for studying in higher education institutions. Most schools will remain gymnasiums, that is, nine-year schools.
