The announcement of the indictment in the Yanukovych case regarding the Maidan shootings has been postponed again. What is the reason?

Today, March 3, 2026, the Brovary City District Court planned to hear the indictment against fugitive ex-president Viktor Yanukovych and security forces on charges of organizing the dispersal and shooting of people on February 18-20, 2014. However, the video conference of the session failed. The court announced a recess until March 10.

This was reported by a correspondent of Suspilny from the courtroom.

On February 19, the Brovary City District Court was supposed to hear the indictment against Yanukovych and security forces in the case of the dispersal and shooting of people on February 18-20, 2014. However, Yanukovych's lawyers did not appear at the hearing. Therefore, the court panel declared a recess until March 3, 10:00.

Prosecutors and some of the victims appeared in the courtroom today. Seven lawyers joined via video conference.

The defendants' lawyer, Yevhen Solodko, who participated in the videoconference, filed a motion to suspend the trial. He argued this by the need to inform all victims about its progress. According to the lawyer, more than 1,000 people should receive clarification on their rights and obligations in this case.

The representative of the victims in response noted that, in general, at the time of today's meeting, “about 6 months have already passed since the start of the information procedure.”

The court rejected the motion of the defendants' lawyer, Yevhen Solodko. After that, he left the video conference. Attempts by the court secretary and the prosecutor to contact him were unsuccessful.

Prosecutor Denys Ivanov filed a motion to hold the hearing without Yevhen Solodok.

“When a large number of participants are present at the court hearing today, one defense attorney simply disconnects from the video conference and we cannot continue the further consideration. Such procedural behavior of the defense attorney directly indicates that it is aimed at disrupting the court hearing and delaying the consideration of the case,” the prosecutor noted.

But other lawyers for the defendants said that the reason for his disconnection from the video conference is currently unknown, so they called such a request “incorrect.”

Ultimately, the court adjourned the hearing until March 10 at 9:50 a.m.

What is known about the consideration of Yanukovych's case in the Brovary City District Court regarding the shootings on Maidan in 2014

The preparatory hearing in the Maidan shootings case lasted a year and a half. As Denys Ivanov, the prosecutor in charge of Maidan cases, told Ukrinform, during 2025 the Brovary City District Court scheduled seventeen court hearings, of which only ten took place.

Court hearings were postponed due to the absence of lawyers, their refusal to receive access to state secrets, as well as due to the expiration of the business trip of the judge presiding over the case, Natalia Sirenko.

This is the fourth sentence that Viktor Yanukovych is expected to receive in a Ukrainian court.

On January 20, 2026, the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine sentenced the fugitive ex-president to 15 years in prison in absentia for illegally seizing land in Sukholuchya.

Last April, Yanukovych was sentenced to 15 years in prison for inciting desertion and organizing illegal crossing of the state border.

In 2019, former President Viktor Yanukovych was sentenced to 13 years in prison for high treason.
