Terrorist attack in Kyiv: criminal proceedings opened for improper performance of duties by police officers

Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko announced that a criminal case has been opened into the fact of improper performance of official duties by police officers during the terrorist attack in Kyiv on April 18.

“All actions of law enforcement officers at a time of critical threat to the lives of citizens, in particular the episode of leaving a young child in danger and untimely stopping the attacker's actions, will receive a proper legal assessment,” the Prosecutor General's post says.

According to him, the case is being handled by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI). The group of prosecutors in the proceedings is headed by the Kyiv prosecutor.

The Prosecutor General reported that the case is being investigated under Part 3 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – official negligence that has caused grave consequences. The sanction provides for imprisonment for a term of two to five years, with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years, and a fine.

The day before, as we reported, the capital's public media published a video where two police officers run away when they hear gunshots.

Ruslan Kravchenko also confirmed that it was not the mother of the injured 12-year-old boy who died in the hospital, but her sister. The boy's father died on the spot from his injuries.

Earlier, the director of the Kyiv City State Administration Department of Health said in a comment to Suspilny that the information about the death of the mother of a 12-year-old boy as a result of a terrorist attack in Kyiv is not true.
