Teenager dies from drug overdose: 20-year-old man who sold him methadone to be tried in Kyiv

A 20-year-old man will go on trial in Kyiv. He is accused of selling methadone to a 17-year-old acquaintance, after which the teenager died of a drug overdose.

This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.

It is noted that in the fall of 2025, the body of a minor was found in an apartment in the Pechersk district. Law enforcement officers found out that the cause of death was an overdose of narcotics and strong substances that he had used the day before.

The investigation established that the boy purchased methadone from the suspect. A synthetically created drug that belongs to the group of opiates. Its action is to suppress the nervous system. and potent drugs that they took together. Later, the defendant took the boy out of the house another dose of methadone, which he receives as part of the substitution maintenance therapy program, and potent drugs.

“In the morning, the minor died in his girlfriend's apartment. Death occurred as a result of methadone poisoning against the background of the toxic effects of alcohol, diphenhydramine, and nicotine,” the report says.

Law enforcement officers qualified the suspect's actions under parts 1 and 2 of Article 307 Illegal acquisition, storage of narcotic drugs for the purpose of sale, as well as illegal sale of narcotic drugs; illegal storage of narcotic drugs for the purpose of sale, as well as illegal sale of narcotic drugs, committed repeatedly and parts 1, 3 of article 321 Illegal acquisition, storage of potent drugs for the purpose of sale, as well as sale of potent drugs; illegal storage of potent drugs for the purpose of sale, as well as sale of potent drugs, committed repeatedly of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum sanction of the articles provides for up to 10 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.

It was previously reported that the capital's law enforcement officers detained four Kyiv residents aged 42-52 on suspicion of trafficking cannabis. According to investigators, the suspects sold drugs to customers both in the capital and by mail to other regions.

Law enforcement officers also reported the exposure of a group in Kyiv. According to the case materials, its members were trafficking drugs and psychotropic substances in the capital. The “goods” were transferred through taxi services.
