
A 34-year-old local resident will go on trial in the Kyiv region. She is suspected of extorting money from acquaintances and spending it on her own needs.
This was reported today, May 4, by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police of the Kyiv region.
According to the case materials, the suspect is a resident of Bila Tserkva. She became friends with a 44-year-old woman, whom she went to for cosmetic services. During another visit in September last year, the suspect informed her friend about an alleged traffic accident involving her young child and borrowed $2,000 for treatment.
Law enforcement officers also found out that later, under the pretext of buying a car, she borrowed $13,200 from the victim, and also extorted $500 and $300 for the alleged treatment of her daughter.
“At the end of last year, the defendant promised a 44-year-old serviceman $5,000 to help him transfer to another unit. Having agreed to the offer, the man handed the attacker money in the city of Bila Tserkva. After receiving the money, the woman disappeared and spent it on her own needs,” the report says.
In total, according to police, the suspect embezzled almost 900 thousand hryvnias. In early April, law enforcement officers informed the suspect of suspicion under parts 3 and 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (fraud). The sanction of the article provides for up to eight years of imprisonment.
It was previously reported that law enforcement officers charged a 36-year-old man from Sumy region with fraud. According to the investigation, he presented himself as an employee of the Security Service of Ukraine and swindled a pensioner – People's Artist of Ukraine – out of more than 128 thousand US dollars and 400 thousand hryvnias. The suspect was detained and a preventive measure was chosen – detention with the alternative of bail in the amount of more than 3.3 million hryvnias.
