SBU detained a resident of Donetsk region suspected of preparing a terrorist attack in Kyiv

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained a man from the temporarily occupied part of the Donetsk region in Kyiv, suspected of preparing a terrorist attack in the capital. According to investigators, he was preparing an assassination attempt on an official of the Federation of Employers of Ukraine.

Law enforcement officials believe that the suspect was recruited in the fall of 2025 by an employee of the Russian FSB, a unit that specializes in sabotage and terrorist attacks in Ukraine. The man was sent to Kyiv, where he was supposed to prepare an assassination attempt on an official.

“As the investigation established, the attacker planned to blow up a man near his house using a homemade remote-controlled bomb. According to the case materials, the explosion was supposed to occur in the morning when the official was leaving for work from the entrance of a high-rise building,” the SBU explained.

According to the investigation, the suspect lived in a rented apartment and tracked the movements of an official of the Federation of Employers of Ukraine. For the purpose of conspiracy, he changed his appearance and clothes, and coordinated the process of preparing the assassination attempt with a supervisor from the FSB, the Service believes.

A man from Donetsk region is suspected of a completed attempt to commit a terrorist act and high treason under martial law, Part 2 of Article 15, Part 2 of Article 258, and Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. If convicted, he faces life imprisonment.

“The agent's supervisor has also been suspected. His actions have been classified as a completed terrorist attack. Comprehensive measures are underway to bring this person to justice,” the SBU explained.
