On the night of May 24, the Russian army launched a massive strike on Kyiv with drones and missiles. Two people were killed and at least six dozen were injured. Destruction was recorded in eight districts of the capital.

At 17:02, Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko reported that the number of injured was 81 people, including three children. 31 people are in hospitals, three of them in serious condition. Two people died as a result of the massive attack.
Impacts and falling debris were recorded in at least nine districts – Podilskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Solomyanskyi, Obolonskyi, Desnianskyi, Dniprovskyi, Darnytskyi, Holosiivskyi and Pecherskyi.
Damaged properties include high-rise residential buildings, private homes, schools, shopping malls, and office buildings. Fires broke out in a number of areas.
In the Shevchenkivskyi district, the strike occurred near a school where people were sheltering — according to preliminary data, the entrance to the shelter was covered in smoke. Another school and an office center were burning in the same area.

The Kyiv City State Administration reported that the Lukyanivska metro station was temporarily closed because the blast wave damaged the lobby.
According to preliminary data, the doors and structures of the escalator flew inward at high speed – one of the fragments knocked a man off his feet, causing a severe open fracture.
In the afternoon, the station resumed operations for passengers in the direction of Yuriy Ilyenko Street. At the same time, the entrance/exit in the direction of the “Kvadrat” shopping center is temporarily closed.
The entrance and exit to the Alley of Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred at the Khreschatyk metro station are also closed.

The State Emergency Service reported on the consequences of the attack as of 6:00:
In particular, in the Darnytskyi district, shelling caused a fire on the roof of a two-story dormitory with an estimated area of 150 square meters. Rescuers are evacuating residents and extinguishing the fire. In the Shevchenkivskyi district , an attack on a school caused a fire on the second floor with an area of 300 square meters. A 5-story residential building was destroyed within the entrance with a fire from the 1st to the 5th floors. A hit was recorded in the building of a business center and a fire broke out in the market area. Another 9-story residential building was hit between the 8th and 9th floors, where a person previously died. Also, a fire was extinguished on the 2nd floor of a 9-story residential building with an area of 5 square meters in the district. In addition, the building of the museum of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Kyiv region was destroyed.

In the Dniprovskyi district, a fire broke out in a private residential building and on the territory of a garage cooperative.
In the Desnyanskyi district, a shopping center and a supermarket building were hit. A fire broke out in five garage boxes on the territory of a garage cooperative.
In the Svyatoshyn district , a 9-story residential building was hit.
In Solomyanskyi district, a minor fire and destruction of structures on an area of 5 square meters occurred on the 23rd floor of a 24-story residential building. Using improvised means, firefighters extinguished a fire on an area of 1 square meter. It is also reported that warehouses in the industrial zone were damaged. In Obolonskyi district, according to preliminary data, a residential building is on fire at one address, and at another, firefighters are extinguishing a fire in a 16-story high-rise building on the 12th-13th floor. There was also a fire in a construction hypermarket.
In the Pechersk district, a fire broke out on the 13th floor of a 20-story new building and a 10-square-meter cabin located nearby is on fire.
