Restoration of the Floriv Monastery with losses of over 600 thousand UAH: a former employee of the Kyiv City State Administration is suspected

Kyiv prosecutors have reported suspicions to the former deputy general director of the Kyiv Scientific and Methodological Center of the Department of Cultural Heritage Protection of the Kyiv City State Administration. He is accused of embezzlement of budget funds during the restoration of the building of the Floriv Monastery, which is a monument of urban planning and architecture of national importance.

This was reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.

Investigators found that the official had entered into a contract with a contractor to restore the architectural monument. The contractor had partially completed some of the work, and had overcharged others.

“Despite this, the official ensured the approval of the acceptance certificates of the completed construction work, on the basis of which budget funds were transferred to the accounts of the contractor company. The conclusions of the forensic examinations confirmed the losses to the capital's budget in the amount of 660 thousand hryvnias,” the report says.

The defendant was charged under Part 4 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine with misappropriation, embezzlement or taking possession of property through abuse of official position. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of five to eight years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of up to three years.
