
In the village of Piskivka, Buchansky district, Kyiv region, a domestic cat was found to have rabies. The community has declared quarantine and will provide free vaccinations for animals.
This was announced by the Piskivska Village United Territorial Community on March 12.
The case was confirmed by the State Service for Food and Consumer Protection of Ukraine. Due to rabies in a cat, a quarantine zone was established in the community from March 11 to May 11, 2026, which, in addition to Piskivka, also included the villages of Raska and Myhalky.
Specialists of the state veterinary service will conduct free vaccinations of dogs and cats against rabies. The time and place will be announced later. For now, local authorities have reminded pet owners of the basic rules:
- do not let pets out for a walk;
- avoid contact with wild or stray animals;
- it is mandatory to vaccinate cats and dogs;
- In case of suspicious animal behavior, notify the veterinary service.
What should a person do after being bitten, scratched, or exposed to animal saliva:
- wash the wound thoroughly with soap (at least 15 minutes);
- treat with an antiseptic and apply a bandage;
- if the bleeding is severe, call an ambulance;
- immediately contact a doctor or emergency room to determine the need for vaccinations.
In February, the Gostomelsk village military administration also reported rabies in a domestic cat. In addition, in the Fastivska community in the Kyiv region, cases of foxes appearing within settlements have increased. Authorities have warned that the animals may be sick with rabies.
