Power outage schedules resumed in Kyiv region after accident in Ukraine's power system

The DTEK energy company announced on Saturday evening that the Kyiv region is returning to the schedules of stabilization power outages after the emergency situation in Ukraine on January 31.

This is stated in a DTEK post on Telegram.

As noted, in the Kyiv region, power engineers managed to stabilize the situation. However, emergency power outages are still ongoing in the capital itself.

The public utility previously published the power outage schedules for January 31. They can also be viewed on the official page of DTEK Kyiv Regional Electric Grids.

We will remind, in a number of regions of Ukraine on the morning of January 31, emergency power outages were introduced. Water and heating also disappeared in various areas of the capital. The metro stopped working for several hours, and the movement of several trains of the city ring electric train was also delayed for 20-30 minutes. Critical infrastructure in Kyiv has already been restored.

The reason is a large-scale technological disruption with the simultaneous shutdown of the 400 kV power transmission line between the power systems of Romania and Moldova, as well as the 750 kV line between the western and central parts of Ukraine.

According to Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal, the incident caused a cascade outage in Ukraine's power grid and triggered automatic protection at substations. As a result, the nuclear power plant units were unloaded. In Kyiv, Kyiv, Zhytomyr and Kharkiv regions, dispatchers applied special emergency outage schedules.
