Police suspect Kyiv resident of burning seven cars to order

Law enforcement officers have detained a man in Kyiv suspected of setting cars on fire. According to the case materials, the suspect destroyed 7 cars on order.

This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police of Kyiv.

It is noted that the suspect is a 35-year-old Kyiv resident who was previously held criminally liable for committing property crimes.

The investigation established that an unknown person contacted the man via messenger. He offered to set fire to military vehicles for money. The suspect burned seven vehicles in the Solomyanskyi district from December 2025 to early January 2026.

“In the last two episodes, in an effort to obtain funds, the defendant sought out civilian business-class cars, removed their license plates, changed them to military ones, set them on fire, and filmed the fire for the customer,” the report says.

Police officers detained the suspect. During a search of his home, law enforcement officers seized a number of physical evidence confirming his involvement in a series of arsons. Currently, investigators have reported suspicion under Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – intentional destruction or damage to property by arson. The most severe sanction of the article provides for up to ten years in prison.

Earlier it was reported that the police detained a 47-year-old Kyiv resident suspected of setting fire to a minibus belonging to a serviceman on behalf of the Russian Federation. The investigation found that after agreeing on the target, the man doused the vehicle with a flammable substance and set it on fire. The fire also damaged two neighboring cars.
