National Guard deployed in Kyiv’s hospital hosting coronavirus patients

The move comes amid recent hike in number of those willing to get tested.

The Infections Department of Kyiv’s Oleksandrivska Hospital, where patients with suspected coronavirus are being treated, is being guarded by servicemen of the National Guard of Ukraine.

“Over the weekend, healthy people were trying to break into the infections department to undergo coronavirus tests. Now the National Guard has been deployed in the hospital, so the department can work in calm,” infectious disease expert, member of the operational headquarters to prevent the spread of coronavirus Olha Holubovska said at a TV panel show Pravo na Vladu on Thursday.

According to the doctor, “it’s impossible to get everyone tested.”

“It’s impossible to test everyone, no one can afford it, not even the U.S. healthcare system. But, of course, we will have extended access to testing,” Holubovska said.

The doctor added the Ministry of Health was preparing treatment protocols for COVID-19.

As UNIAN reported earlier, an outbreak of a novel coronavirus was recorded late December 2019 in the most populous city of Central China, Wuhan. The World Health Organization recognized it as a global emergency, describing it as a multi-cell epidemic.

To date, 26 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in Ukraine, three of which are lethal.

The country has declared a nationwide quarantine, which will last until April 3.
