The Kyiv Court of Appeals has increased the sentence of a 35-year-old man who tried to rape an 8-year-old boy in a school toilet in Podil. The first-instance court sentenced him to 6 years and 6 months in prison. Juvenile prosecutors have appealed, demanding a longer sentence. The new sentence is 10 years behind bars.

According to the investigation, the man entered the toilets of schools in the Podilskyi district of Kyiv while first and second grade students were there.
He was convicted for two episodes on the same day, but at different schools in Podil.
According to the prosecutor's office, a man exposed himself in front of a 6-year-old boy in a gymnasium toilet. This incident was investigated as committing lewd acts against a minor — Part 2 of Article 156 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
In another school, he had already attempted to rape an 8-year-old student in a toilet stall. These actions were actions that were qualified as a completed attempt at rape — Part 2, Article 15, Part 4, Article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
At the same time, as noted by the metropolitan prosecutor's office, the court of first instance considered both episodes as committing lewd acts against minors, sentencing the man to 6 years and 6 months in prison.

“Disagreeing with this court decision, juvenile prosecutors of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office appealed it,” the report says.
The Kyiv Court of Appeal agreed with the prosecutor's office's position. The man's sentence was increased. The new sentence is 10 years in prison with deprivation of the right to hold positions related to working with children and engage in any activity related to caring for children, their upbringing, and organizing leisure activities for a period of 3 years.
