KNU appoints new head after rector's change

Valeriy Kopiyka was appointed acting rector of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

This was reported by the Student Parliament of Kyiv National University.

The director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of International Relations of KNU will temporarily head the university after the previous rector's term ends.

The student parliament wished the newly appointed leader “patience in restoring trust in the university.”

The student community has also already invited Valeriy Kopiyka to an open meeting to discuss further steps and priorities for the development of the educational institution.

On April 29, the rector of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Volodymyr Bugrov, was dismissed from his position due to the expiration of his contract.

What is known about Valeriy Kopiyka?

Valeriy Kopiyka is a Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor, Director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of International Relations of the Kyiv National University. He specializes in issues of European integration and foreign policy of Western European countries.

Graduated from the Faculty of International Relations and International Law of the Kyiv National University (1984). He defended his PhD thesis in 1990, and his doctoral thesis in 2004.

He has been working at the university since 1990: from assistant to professor at the Department of International Relations. Since 2009, he has headed the Institute of International Relations, before that he was deputy director for academic work.

He completed internships and lectured at universities in Belgium, Great Britain, and Bulgaria.
