It is dangerous to go out onto the ice of the Kyiv Sea: the State Emergency Service calls on Kyiv residents not to organize mass events on the reservoir

The State Emergency Service (SES) noticed an announcement on social media of a mass event on the frozen water of the Kyiv Reservoir. Rescuers are asking people not to walk there, as it is dangerous.

This is stated in a post by the State Emergency Service of Kyiv Region on January 31.

Residents and guests of the Vyshhorod district of the Kyiv region are asked not to attend any mass events on the shores of the Kyiv Sea, so as not to expose themselves to a number of dangers:

  • It is currently impossible to guarantee the safety of being on the ice, especially for car drivers (a few days ago, footage of people drifting in cars at high speed on the ice of the Kyiv Reservoir was already being shared on social networks – ed.);
  • there are no shelters near the reservoir in case of an air raid;
  • There is a real threat to people's lives and health.

Winter tips

To avoid injuries, citizens are urged to follow advice during ice and fog and to be careful when moving around the city.

Over 2,000 inviolability points have been prepared in the capital, where you can charge your phones and stay warm. The State Emergency Service is also deploying additional tents, in particular in the Troyeschyna region. Over 400 inviolability points are operating in the Kyiv region.

Citizens are also reminded of safety rules on ice and what to do if they fall into the water. In particular, the advice applies to fishermen.

Doctors also explained what increases the risk of cold injury and what to do if it happens.

Winter is the hardest time for animals and birds. Frost, wind, and snow make it difficult to find food, water, and safe shelter. Citizens are reminded of how they can help homeless cats, dogs, and birds during the cold season.
