In the Kyiv region, in the city of Obukhiv, a bus driver collided with a 67-year-old man who was crossing the roadway at a place other than a designated pedestrian crossing. The pedestrian died.
Kyiv Region Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident, as reported on January 29.
It is previously known that the 49-year-old driver of the Ataman bus hit a 67-year-old man. He was crossing the road outside the pedestrian crossing. He later died in hospital from his injuries.
Investigators of the Kyiv Region Police Investigation Department have launched a pre-trial investigation under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of road safety rules or transport operation by persons driving vehicles, if they caused death or serious bodily injury. The sanction of the article is imprisonment for a term of 3 to 8 years with or without deprivation of the right to drive a car for up to 3 years.
Pedestrian safety
Previously, the patrol police of Kyiv and the region drew attention to the fact that during stabilization power outages, pedestrians become less visible to drivers. Residents should wear reflective items in the evening. They can be in the form of a badge, bracelet, sticker, or be part of clothing, such as a vest.
The Kyiv City State Administration is asking drivers and pedestrians to be careful due to the icy roads that have been present for the past few days.
Drivers must adhere to the speed limit and distance; avoid risky maneuvers; reduce speed when approaching pedestrian crossings and childcare facilities; turn on side lights or fog lights, and replace summer tires with winter tires in a timely manner.
Pedestrians are advised to:
- walk without haste, relax your legs slightly, slightly bending them at the knees; step on the entire sole;
- don't keep your hands in your pockets, but swing them in time with your walking – this way it's better to keep your balance;
- if your balance is still broken, try to sit down quickly;
- Be careful on the sidewalk: the car may skid or the driver may not brake in time;
- It should be remembered that the braking distance on a slippery road increases by 4-5 times.
