Illegal departure from Ukraine for $10,000: 50-year-old man suspected in Kyiv

The Obolon District Prosecutor's Office of Kyiv has filed charges against a 50-year-old man. He is suspected of facilitating the illegal crossing of the state border by conscripts.

This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.

The investigation established that the suspect was looking for “clients” among men of draft age. For 10,000 US dollars, he promised to organize their illegal departure from Ukraine.

“During personal meetings, the man emphasized the need for advance payment for “services.” He offered clients a ride from Kyiv to a hotel near the border, after which they had to cross the border with Romania on foot, bypassing official checkpoints,” the report says.

The suspect was detained while transferring money. His actions were classified under Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for up to 9 years of imprisonment with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of up to three years and confiscation of property.

It was previously reported that law enforcement officers in the Kyiv region have dismantled a scheme for illegally transporting conscripts across the border. According to preliminary data from law enforcement officers, dozens of people were able to leave Ukraine under this scheme in six months. The total turnover is about 110 thousand US dollars. The probable organizer of the scheme is a 40-year-old native of Lviv, who currently lives in the Kyiv region.
