He defrauded the daughter of a deceased soldier of 700 thousand hryvnias: a 20-year-old Kyiv resident is suspected of fraud

The Metropolitan Prosecutor's Office has reported a 20-year-old Kyiv resident on suspicion of fraud. According to the case materials, the young man offered a girl whose father died in the war to earn money on cryptocurrency, fraudulently obtained passwords to her cards and withdrew 700,000 hryvnias from her accounts.

This was reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.

Investigators determined that a guy in a dating bot began communicating with a 20-year-old girl from Odessa and after a while offered to help her earn money on cryptocurrency.

To do this, he asked for access to her online banking, assuring her that she would only give him passwords to a card that had no money on it. In fact, the guy got access to all of her cards and saw that there were significant amounts in the account. The girl had received payments from the state for the death of her father.

“At first, a new acquaintance withdrew 6,000 hryvnias from her card every day at the supermarket checkout, and later began spending larger amounts on buying cryptocurrency and transferring money to other people's cards,” the report says.

At the same time, the girl saw that the money was gradually disappearing from the card and contacted the bank. But the suspect convinced her that bank employees should not be trusted.

“Thus, the guy withdrew 700,000 hryvnias from the account of the deceased soldier's daughter, and then closed her account altogether. At the same time, the girl never saw the guy in person, and in the photos he sent, there was actually another person. This became clear during the investigation,” the prosecutor's office said.

According to law enforcement, the suspect has previously been prosecuted for fraud – he used his friends' phones to apply for loans and transfer loan money to himself without their knowledge.

The defendant was charged with fraud under Part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for up to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The court remanded the suspect in custody with bail set at 700,000 hryvnias.
