In Kyiv's Obolonskyi district, a man fell on ice and broke it. Rescuers pulled him out of the icy water.
This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Kyiv.
It is noted that on the afternoon of January 25, rescuers received a report that a man had fallen through the ice on the Dnipro River. The incident occurred near Natalka Park. The man was skiing from skysurfing, he could not hold back and fell onto the ice, breaking it.
“Rescuers found a man in a crevasse 100 meters from the shore. Using special equipment, the man was pulled out of the water and handed over to medics,” the report says.
It was previously reported that on January 8, a man fell through the ice in Obolon, Kyiv, while winter fishing. He was pulled out of the water by other fishermen. Rescuers from the State Emergency Service helped transport the man to an ambulance. There, he was provided with the necessary assistance and taken to the hospital.
Safety rules on ice
Citizens are reminded that one of the main rules is not to go out onto ice whose thickness and strength are unknown and to check the strength of the ice by kicking it. For a safe stay for one person, the thickness of the ice cover should be at least 7 cm, and for a group of people – at least 15 cm.
Usually the strongest ice has a greenish tint. Gray and matte ice are dangerous because it is a mixture of water and snow, which has many air pockets inside, and therefore is fragile. You should also not go out on gray or spotted ice: there is water or a current under it, so it is already losing its strength and can break at any moment. You should avoid areas covered with a thick layer of snow, places with fast currents, springs, as well as areas near frozen bushes, reeds and industrial drains.
When fishing, it is necessary to keep a safe distance. The distance between the holes should be at least 5-6 meters, since a large number of holes in a small area significantly weakens the ice.
Meteorologists predict a thaw in Kyiv and the region on January 27 and 28.
