Fatal traffic accident in Kyiv: drunk driver reported for suspicion

The Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office has reported a 40-year-old man to the police for suspicion. He is accused of causing a fatal traffic accident that killed a teenager.

This was reported today, May 5, by the press service of the department.

It is noted that the fatal traffic accident occurred in the Desnyanskyi district on the evening of May 1 of this year. The investigation established that the driver of a Mitsubishi L200 car at the intersection of Lavrukhina and Reagan streets, when turning left, did not let go of a VAZ car that was moving towards him.

“There were four people in the VAZ car at that moment – the driver and three underage passengers. One of them – a 17-year-old boy – died in the hospital. Two passengers – a 15-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy, as well as the VAZ driver, were taken to the hospital,” the report says.

The prosecutor's office informed that the driver of the Mitsubishi L200 was detained and is in custody. It is known that he was driving under the influence of alcohol (1.07 ppm).

Law enforcement officers described the man's actions as violation of traffic safety rules by a person driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, which caused the death of the victim (Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the article provides for up to ten years of imprisonment with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a term of up to ten years. The suspect was chosen as a preventive measure – detention without bail for 60 days.

It was previously reported that on April 29, a fatal traffic accident occurred on the Darnytskyi Bridge in Kyiv. A woman died as a result of a collision between three cars. The driver was detained and a suspect was declared.
