Educational institutions in the capital, which were left without heating, switched to distance learning.

Educational institutions in the Darnytskyi and Dniprovskyi districts of Kyiv, which were left without heating, will work remotely during the period of restoration of the CHPP-4, which was damaged as a result of shelling.

This was announced by Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, Valentyn Mondryivskyi.

According to him, about 45% of educational institutions in Darnytsia and Dnipro districts are currently without heat. There, classes will be held online, while the rest will work in person.

The Department of Education and Science is preparing several options for students to return to full-time education as soon as possible.

“One of them is the temporary education of primary school students in the nearest schools that have appropriate conditions. The issue of organizing the work of kindergartens in these areas is being considered separately. Experts are analyzing possible formats, in particular, the rational combination of several kindergartens in one building as supporting institutions for the community. I emphasize that all these solutions are currently in the preparation stage,” said Valentyn Mondryivskyi.

Decisions on the format of education are made individually for each educational institution, taking into account the actual availability of heat and the ability to create appropriate conditions for children and employees. Parents and teachers will be informed of all further changes in the organization of the educational process by the administrations of educational institutions and district education departments.

In total, due to the January rocket attacks and damage to critical infrastructure, there is no heat supply in 153 educational institutions in Kyiv. This is about 15% of the total number. At the same time, the situation with heating is stable in Obolonsky, Podilsky and Svyatoshynsky districts. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, 260 educational institutions have been damaged in the capital as a result of Russian attacks, the Kyiv City State Administration added.

What is known about the destruction of the Darnytsia TPP as a result of the Russian attack?

Kyiv was hit by Russian drone and missile attacks on the night of Wednesday, February 3. Six people are known to have been injured in the shelling. As a result of the strike, more than 1,100 multi-story buildings in the Dnipro and Darnytsia districts were left without heating.

According to Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal, the Darnytsia CHP, which was focused only on producing heat for people, suffered “severe damage.” According to him, a plan for restoration work has been outlined and it “will take a significant amount of time.”

As reported by the mayor Vitaliy Klitschko, at least two months are needed to restore the systems and equipment of the Darnytsia thermal power plant, if there are no new Russian attacks on this energy facility. The CHP provided heat supply to more than 1,100 multi-storey buildings in the Darnytsia and Dniprovs'kyi districts. In these multi-storey buildings, after the Russian attack on the CHP on the morning of February 3, the water in the heating systems was drained to avoid defrosting.

The official portal of Kyiv has a list of houses that cannot have their heat supply restored until the destroyed Darnytsia CHP is rebuilt.
