
The capital's law enforcement was informed that they had blocked drug trafficking to the Kyiv pre-trial detention center, as well as the Starobabanivska correctional colony in Cherkasy region. Drugs and psychotropic substances were disguised in food products, hygiene products, and equipment, and then sent by mail to places of detention.
This was reported to the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office and the Metropolitan Police Department.
During the pre-trial investigation, it was established that a resident of the capital, together with a colony employee and two convicts, organized the supply of narcotics to the correctional colony.

“Kyiv resident” “packed drugs inside power banks, routers and mobile phones and sent them by mail to an employee of a penal institution. The man received them and smuggled them into the territory of the penal colony, where he handed them over to his accomplices who were serving sentences. They distributed methadone and cannabis among the prisoners,” the prosecutor's office said.
The department reported that one of the members of the group that supplied drugs to Starobabanivska Correctional Colony No. 92 has already been given a preventive measure in the form of detention.

As noted by the Kyiv police, all the defendants met each other while in prison. A 25-year-old prisoner with criminal status was responsible for organizing drug trafficking and further sales in the Starobabanivska correctional colony, and in the Kyiv pre-trial detention center, the so-called watchman. They recruited acquaintances who are at large, cellmates, and employees of the institutions as accomplices. The latter were supposed to formally inspect the packages.
“The accomplices at large hid methadone and cannabis in food products – canned goods, honey, jam, muffins, cookies, bread, condensed milk, hygiene products – shower gels, wet wipes, technology – routers, etc. Later, they sent them by mail to the pre-trial detention center and the correctional colony. There, the parcels were received by other participants and, on the instructions of the organizers, they distributed the drugs on the territory of the institutions,” the police report.

The law enforcement agency added that investigators documented the entire criminal chain and established the involvement of the suspects in at least two dozen episodes.
“Law enforcement officers carried out measures to block drug trafficking. According to their results, drugs and psychotropic substances, mobile phones, notebooks with rough notes, bank cards, ammunition of various calibers, as well as more than $18,000 were seized from the places of residence and detention of the suspects. Investigators reported the suspicion to five suspects, including an employee of the Starobabanivska Correctional Colony,” the police noted.
The suspects' actions were classified under Part 3 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine on illegal production, storage or sale of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. The sanction of the article is up to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
