A court has found an IT specialist from Kyiv guilty of high treason and sentenced him to life in prison. The prosecution proved in court that the man coordinated Russian attacks on the capital's thermal power plants.
This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine on February 16.
SBU officers detained the man in July 2025. During the searches, they seized a smartphone from him, on which he had marked air “corridors” for Russian shelling of the capital's energy facilities “bypassing” Ukrainian air defenses.
According to investigators, the 32-year-old IT specialist joined the Russian special services via Telegram channels, where he offered his help in the war against Ukraine for money. After being recruited, he traveled around the capital region and marked the geolocations of energy facilities that were operating on electronic maps. He also photographed the exterior facades of potential “targets” with reference to the terrain.
“In addition, during reconnaissance sorties, the agent monitored the bases of the air defense units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He included “additional” information in the agent's report for the FSB curator,” the report says.
After the shelling, the convict arrived at the sites of the hits to find out the consequences and transfer the data obtained to prepare new attacks by the Russian Federation.
Based on evidence collected by the Security Service, the court found the perpetrator guilty under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – high treason committed under martial law.
