Businessman to be tried in Kyiv region for using Russian payment system WebMoney

An entrepreneur from Kharkiv region who worked in IT will appear in court in the Kyiv region. He is suspected of using the payment system “WebMoney”, which was founded in Russia and is banned in Ukraine. Prosecutors have sent an indictment against the entrepreneur to the court.

This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.

According to the case materials, the suspect provided hosting services through his own Internet resource, as well as provided users with access to VPN and FTP servers.

The man accepted payment for these services through the Russian system “WebMoney.” The use of this service in Ukraine is prohibited by a decision of the National Security and Defense Council, the prosecutor's office noted.

“The use of the WebMoney payment system in economic activities actually contributes to the financial support of the aggressor state, since this system is of Russian origin, is under the control of residents of the Russian Federation, and the paid commissions and transaction services form financial flows that indirectly fill the economy and budget of the aggressor country,” the law enforcement officers explained.

Detectives of the Territorial Department of the BEB in the Kyiv region documented the payment scheme during investigative actions.

The entrepreneur's actions were classified under Part 1 of Article 200 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – illegal actions with transfer documents, payment cards and electronic money. The sanction of the article provides for a fine of from three to five thousand non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens.
