Bribery for “unofficial vacations”: military unit commander to be tried in Kyiv region

The commander of a military unit in the Kyiv region will be tried on suspicion of corruption. Investigators have completed the investigation and sent an indictment to the court in the case of issuing unofficial vacations for money.

This was reported on Tuesday, February 24, by the State Bureau of Investigation.

According to law enforcement officials, the officer was actually “selling” unofficial permits to temporarily leave the place of duty.

“During 2023, servicemen who wanted to travel freely outside the Kyiv garrison transferred funds to the commander's personal bank card. This practice made subordinates dependent on the official and undermined the principles of military discipline,” the SBI said.

It is noted that law enforcement officers documented 14 cases of receiving illegal benefits from 9 servicemen.

29 The commander of the military unit was informed of suspicion under Part 1 and Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – solicitation and receipt of illegal benefit in a large amount. The indictment has now been sent to the court. The issue of choosing a preventive measure for the suspect is being resolved.

The State Bureau of Investigation noted that those who transferred the money were also separately held liable. 9 servicemen were notified of suspicion under Part 1 and Part 2 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The indictments against them are already being considered by the court.
