The capital's court found a 39-year-old Russian citizen guilty of assaulting and robbing a military serviceman and sentenced him to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
This was reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
The prosecutor proved in court that in March 2023, the accused and his accomplice saw a soldier on Kharkiv Highway and decided to rob him. The attackers beat him until he lost consciousness and took his phone, watch, and wallet.
“When the victim began to regain consciousness, the defendants returned and began kicking him in the head again,” the prosecutor's office said.
The victim is a 36-year-old serviceman of a mobile fire group that shoots down “shaheeds” over Kyiv. And one of the accused is a citizen of the Russian Federation. Two months before the attack, he was released from prison, where he spent a total of more than 20 years. Another accused died before the verdict, due to drug use, the report says.
In January, the National Police reported that unknown persons beat and robbed a serviceman in the Holosiivskyi district near a public transport stop. The victim is a 59-year-old resident of the Kyiv region who came to the capital on vacation.
