A man was detained in Kyiv: they suspect that he promised a convicted woman mobilization instead of prison for $18,000

Employees of the Obolon District Prosecutor's Office informed the Kyiv resident of the suspicion that he had allegedly promised to help the woman avoid a real prison sentence by mobilizing her for money. He estimated his “services” at $18,000.

This was reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.

According to the investigation, the woman is currently serving a sentence for causing a traffic accident with the victims – she was sentenced to 5 years in prison. The man had to come to an agreement with the management of the correctional colony and with the commander of one of the military units.

“For $18,000, the woman would be mobilized to the position of a combat medic, which could allow her to leave the colony. The man asked for payment only after he allegedly agreed on all issues with both parties,” the prosecutor’s office said.

He was detained while receiving the entire amount of funds under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The man is charged with obtaining unlawful benefit for himself and a third party, for influencing the decision-making of a person authorized to perform state functions, combined with the extortion of such benefit, committed by a group of persons in prior conspiracy, is Part 2 of Article 28 and Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of 3 to 8 years with confiscation of property.

The man is currently a defendant in another case – he is suspected of causing a traffic accident with the victims. The court has chosen a preventive measure for him: detention with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of UAH 3.3 million.
