A man died while being detained by police in Kyiv. Patrol officers told what happened

Last Sunday, February 8, a man died in Kyiv. Police say neighbors called the police that night because a group of people were making noise and drinking during curfew. When officers arrived, one of the men began threatening them and they began to detain him. The man became unwell and died despite resuscitation efforts. The incident was reported to the State Bureau of Investigation State Bureau of Investigation .

This was reported on February 14 in Telegram by the capital's patrol police.

Previously, some social media platforms posted a video showing a man lying unconscious in the snow in the dark, with police and civilians trying to provide first aid and checking for signs of life.

So the police explained the situation and made their position public.

According to the press release, at around 1:00 a.m., the 112 line received a report that a group of people were drinking alcohol on a playground, swearing obscenely, interfering with rest, and violating the curfew, which in Kyiv lasts from 0:00 to 5:00.

Inspectors arrived at the scene. According to the police, a group of people were behaving aggressively and disturbing public order.

“We tried to calm the violators, but one of the men began to threaten the patrol officers and did not respond to the police officers' remarks. In order to stop the offense, the patrol officers used physical force and handcuffs on him,” the post says.

Then the man suddenly felt sick, he began to faint. The police say that they then removed the handcuffs from him, placed him in a stable lateral position and called an ambulance. While the police waited for the medics, they provided first aid themselves. Despite resuscitation measures, the man died. The forensic medical examination stated that the cause of death was heart disease.

“In order to comprehensively and impartially clarify the circumstances of the incident, an investigative and operational group and monitoring officers arrived at the scene,” the patrol police say.

The event was reported to the State Bureau of Investigation, information was entered into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Part 3 of Article 365 Abuse of power or official authority by an employee of a law enforcement agency of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Updated at 4:53 p.m. Later, the Kyiv patrol police released a fragment of the video recording from the body cameras of law enforcement officers that evening.
