Today, January 25, 31-year-old rescuer and climber Oleksandr Pytaychuk died during emergency restoration work at one of Kyiv's energy facilities.
This was reported on Telegram by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Ihor Klymenko.
According to the official, the climber fell from a height of 20 meters. The injuries were fatal.
“Rescuers are in the most dangerous places every day. They enter destroyed buildings, work under fire, in fire, water, and frost to save others. This service is always associated with mortal risk. And today this risk took the life of our colleague,” Klymenko wrote.
He expressed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
As Andriy Danyk, head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, said, the deceased Oleksandr Pytaychuk worked as a rescuer-climber at the Main Mobile Rescue Center of Rapid Response of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
“We lost a person who was not just doing his duty. He worked between the chaos and the normal life of the townspeople, so that there would be light and warmth in the houses, and for the people of Kyiv – hope that everything would be fine. He was only 31 years old. Brave. Brave. Sincere. Purposeful. A person about whom friends, family and colleagues say only kind and warm words,” writes Danyk.
On January 19, a locksmith died during a call to an apartment in one of the buildings. The man was 60 years old, Mayor Klitschko said.
On January 21, Oleksiy Brecht, a board member and former interim chairman of the board of Ukrenergo NPC, was electrocuted at one of the recently attacked substations. He personally coordinated the restoration work there for two consecutive days.
