16-year-old girl who fell into a pit of boiling water in Kyiv dies

A 16-year-old girl who fell into a pit of boiling water in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv in early January has died.

This was reported to the Public by Anna Strashok, spokeswoman for the Main Directorate of the National Police of Kyiv.

“The girl died on the night of March 21, the pre-trial investigation is currently ongoing,” Strashok said.

After the girl fell into an unfenced pit with boiling water, law enforcement officers reported the suspicion to the head of the Kyivteplokomunenergo division, who was supervising the work at the site. His actions were classified under Part 2 of Article 272 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violation of safety rules during the performance of work with increased danger, if it caused the death of people or other serious consequences.

“That is, requalification is not needed here, since both serious injuries and death fall under Part 2 of Article 272 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, we are waiting for the results of the examination. We will inform you about the completion of the pre-trial investigation in addition,” Iryna Vynokurova, a spokeswoman for the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, informed the Public.

The sanction of the article provides for restriction of liberty for a term of up to five years or imprisonment for a term of up to eight years, with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of up to three years, the prosecutor's office noted.

The accident occurred on January 2. Then, on Lobanovsky Avenue, a heating network burst, and asphalt collapsed due to an intense leak of hot water. A 16-year-old girl fell into this pit of boiling water and received burns over 70% of her body. She was hospitalized in intensive care, and on January 4, in a state of medically induced coma, she was transported to Germany for treatment.
