Ukrainian Health Ministry to Bolster Kyiv Heart Institute’s Power Resilience, Back Innovative Child Cardiology Methods: Lyashko

The Minister of Public Health, Viktor Lyashko, voiced his backing for the energy stability of the capital’s Institute of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery. The implementation of novel methodologies in heart therapy was also on the agenda.

The Minister of Health, Viktor Lyashko, conveyed his assistance for the energy steadiness of the capital’s Center for Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery as well as the incorporation of fresh cardiac treatment techniques, UNN indicates.

During the assembly, Minister Lyashko alongside the director of the Center for Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery, Georgy Mankovsky, deliberated on concrete answers to furnish the healthcare establishment with backup power and heating solutions. This would facilitate uninterrupted operation of vital departments and secure the well-being of patients, even during complete electrical grid failures.

A discrete segment of the session involved examining the progression of sophisticated medical technologies. Notably, a distinctive undertaking for Ukraine: the formation of a Center for Interventional Pediatric Radiology paired with the advent of cutting-edge methods for interventional handling of end-stage cardiac insufficiency in both young patients and grown-ups.

The Center for Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery stands as a premier, highly specialized hub, executing the highest volume of surgical and interventional procedures in Ukraine for the most intricate inherent cardiac malformations in children, commencing right from infancy.

Each year, the Center for Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery handles: in excess of 40,000 consultations; 3,000 coronary angiographies for adult individuals; 2,000 diagnostic angiographic assessments in children, affording the possibility of concurrent intervention; 2,000 invasive arrhythmological therapies; 2,500 inclusive cardiological evaluation schemes; 2,000 operations on children and 1,500 operations on adults.

The Center for Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery holds the distinction of being the sole institution in Ukraine conducting aortic valve neo-hospitalization procedures (30 interventions annually) and has pioneered comprehensive replacements of the aortic arch and thoraco-abdominal aorta (5 operations annually). The Center undertakes LVAD implantations and manages Ukraine’s only division dedicated to 3D-thoracoscopic, minimally invasive heart surgery.

The Center expressed its gratitude to the Ministry of Public Health of Ukraine for its backing and highlighted that the unbroken functioning of the medical facility amidst wartime circumstances is achievable due to the safeguard and constancy provided by the state and the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
