Details

According to the National Health Service of Ukraine, being overweight and obese represents a leading cause of developing chronic, non-communicable ailments. It is also a major contributor to many heart-related issues, such as high blood pressure, ischemic heart disease, heart attacks, strokes, and type 2 diabetes.

Being Overweight:

  • impacts blood pressure levels;
    • interferes with the processing of fats and sugars;
      • encourages the body to resist insulin’s effects;
        • places greater burden on the heart and circulatory system;
          • elevates the likelihood of vascular complications.

            The National Health Service has noted that many of these conditions may progress slowly, often without significant symptoms.

            According to information from the Electronic Health System on March 3, 2026, data exists for 1,001,240 patients identified with “obesity” or “overweight”. Broken down:

            • under the age of 18 – 130,690 patients;
              • over the age of 18 – 870,464 patients;
                • age information missing from the EHR – 86 patients.

                  The National Health Service emphasizes that these figures point to the breadth of the risk factor and highlight the necessity for ongoing preventative actions among adults and young people alike.

                  To avert health issues, regular consultation with a general practitioner is encouraged to facilitate early detection of metabolic disorders, ideally before the emergence of long-term conditions and related difficulties.

                  Family doctor:

                  • calculates body mass index;
                    • monitors blood pressure
                      • orders a blood glucose evaluation;
                        • evaluates individual risk profiles;
                          • suggests adjustments to lifestyle and makes referrals to specialists when needed.

                            We will remind you

                            Based on a large review of 22 research studies involving almost 2,000 adults worldwide, intermittent fasting did not show better outcomes for weight loss compared to standard diet plans.
