Ukraine is introducing a new mechanism for transparency of drug prices through e-prescription

A fresh capability within the electronic prescription platform will become available in Ukraine, affording individuals the chance to instantly view the most economical alternatives for their prescribed drugs, enabling choices based on their personal financial resources. This was indicated by Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yulia Svirydenko, as reported by UNN.

As stated by her, the government is moving forward with a collection of initiatives designed to improve clarity in drug pricing and safeguard individuals from paying excessive amounts.

Medications should be within reach for everyone. The government is maintaining a set of measures that will enhance price visibility and permit people to select the most advantageous option

– Svyridenko mentioned.

Moving forward, alongside the electronic prescription, individuals will get data regarding the three least expensive choices for the necessary medication drawn from the National Price Catalog. This information will be presented as a QR code on the physical note accompanying the e-prescription, which can be obtained from a healthcare provider.

As clarified by the Prime Minister, the new functionality will aid in preventing unnecessary expenditures on branded items and facilitate choosing drugs with the equivalent active component, strength, and delivery method.

In the catalog, you will observe all obtainable drugs containing the same active component, strength and form of delivery, along with three selections of medications at the lowest price points. A minimum of one of these alternatives should be accessible in any pharmacy

Initially, the innovation will be implemented for single-ingredient prescription drugs in tablet and capsule forms, which individuals acquire using their own funds. Looking ahead, the government intends to expand the solution to include other medication categories.

Svyridenko also pointed out that the National Catalog holds maximum allowable prices for medications, meaning pharmacies are prohibited from selling them at prices exceeding the specified level.
