March Geomagnetic Storm Outlook – NOAA

The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has issued a space weather forecast for the month of March. Temporary increases in geomagnetic disturbances, along with minor magnetic disturbances, are anticipated.

When to expect magnetic storms in March - NOAA forecast

The initial phase of March will unfold without substantial geomagnetic unrest. Nevertheless, brief durations of heightened activity are a possibility around mid-month. This prediction was disseminated by the American National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) within its 27-day overview of space weather conditions, UNN reports.

What does Kp-index mean?

The degree of geomagnetic perturbation is quantified by the Kp index—a ranking system spanning from 0 to 9, where a value of 2 denotes a serene magnetosphere, 3 indicates subtle disturbances, 4 signifies elevated activity, and a reading of 5 or higher points to a magnetic disturbance.

                                            Will this affect your well-being?

                                            During periods of magnetic disturbance, individuals susceptible to meteorological variations might experience headaches, weariness, or variations in blood pressure. However, predictions indicate no substantial geomagnetic events are expected for March.

                                            On these particular days, medical professionals recommend:

                                            • avoid strenuous physical activity;
                                              • refrain from taking excessively hot baths, or visiting saunas or bathhouses;
                                                • abstain from consuming alcoholic beverages;
                                                  • substitute coffee with mild herbal infusions, compote, or mineral-rich water;
                                                    • avoid rich and fried dishes, choosing instead clear soups, lighter broths, grains as accompaniments, and mixed greens;
                                                      • Maintain a balance between rest and exercise, and ensure a minimum of 8 hours of sleep.

                                                        We will remind you

                                                        An impactful G4 level geomagnetic disruption, the most pronounced in twenty years, sparked auroral displays observable in Canada, the northern regions of the United States, and sections of Europe, including Ukraine. This phenomenon stemmed from a substantial discharge of energized particles originating from the Sun.
