A baby arrived into the world at just 25 weeks of gestation and presented with a birth-related cardiac issue that necessitated prompt medical attention.
Medical professionals at the Kyiv Center for Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery successfully saved a baby girl who was born prematurely, registering a weight of only 960 grams. The infant was delivered at the 25th week of gestation and was diagnosed with a congenital heart condition known as patent ductus arteriosus, UNN reports, citing the Center's Facebook presence.
According to physicians, the infant's state demanded immediate and highly specialized medical intervention.
The surgical procedure was carried out by pediatric cardiac surgeons Ibrahim Yusifli and Maksym Delikatnyi, in collaboration with a comprehensive team of specialists. The occlusion of the ductus arteriosus was conducted right at the perinatal center where the newborn was being cared for.
The doctors mentioned that the process necessitated utmost precision, taking into account the patient's significantly low weight and the immaturity of her organs. Before and after the intervention, the infant benefited from an ultrasound assessment, which validated the procedure's success.
As of now, the girl's condition remains stable. Medical staff anticipates positive development in her progress and emphasize that the prompt surgical care ensured the child's survival.
The center underscores that these types of operations on infants with exceptionally low body mass are intricate, but due to the proficiency of Ukrainian cardiac surgeons and advanced technology, even the tiniest patients have a chance at life.
