A case of dengue fever has been reported in the Lviv region involving a 24-year-old female who was on holiday in the Maldives. She received hospital treatment starting February 19 and was released on February 26 in a stable state.

According to medical professionals, the woman began experiencing symptoms on February 15, 2026, which included shivering, cephalgia, a body temperature reaching 38.5 °C, myalgia, stomach discomfort, among other manifestations.
On February 19, she sought clinical attention and was admitted to the Lviv Regional Infectious Diseases Clinical Hospital.
During the course of treatment, doctors performed lab diagnostics. Initially, tests came back negative for West Nile virus, hantaviruses, and malaria parasites. The samples were then forwarded to the Public Health Center of Ukraine’s reference lab for further scrutiny. The detailed study’s findings confirmed the presence of Dengue fever virus RNA.

It is understood that the patient spent February 4-16 on Thoddoo Island (Maldives). She sustained mosquito bites while on her trip and did not consistently use insect repellents.
The woman was discharged from the medical facility on February 26 in satisfactory health, with a diagnosis of moderate dengue fever.
In the preceding year, there had already been a documented occurrence of the illness in the Lviv district, affecting a 31-year-old Japanese national who had traveled back from a professional visit to Indonesia. In that instance as well, the disease followed a moderate course, and the patient fully recovered without any complications.

Dengue fever represents a viral ailment propagated via the bites of infected mosquitoes and is prevalent in tropical and subtropical regions.
The transmitting agents are mosquitoes from the Aedes genus, most notably Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus.
