Ukraine’s army losses in Donbas since year’s start: 41 KIA’s, 182 WIA’s

The recent sniper attack is being investigated by Ukraine’s SBU.

The Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has reported the Ukrainian army’s losses in Donbas since the beginning of 2020: 41 killed in action (KIA’s) and 182 wounded in action (WIA’s).

The PGO’s press service says prosecutors have been monitoring all criminal proceedings on facts of killed or wounded Ukrainian troops amid Russia’s armed aggression in Ukraine’s east.

On Thursday, March 19, the prosecutor’s office in Luhansk region registered the latest incident and launched a criminal investigation into the fact of a fatal gunshot wound and death of a Ukrainian soldier shot by a Russia-controlled sniper. The 35-year-old victim’s name is Oleksiy Zolin. He was a resident of Zhytomyr.

“This happened on the front line near the town of Popasna in the Joint Forces Operation zone,” it said. “The pretrial investigation is being conducted by the SBU Security Service of Ukraine under Part 3 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.”

The Ukrainian army’s losses in Donbas from January 1 to March 19, 2019, were the following: 34 KIA’s and 222 WIA’s.
