U.S. planning to send Patriot missile defense system to Ukraine – CNN

This was reported by CNN with reference to U.S.officials, according to Ukrinform.

“The Pentagon’s plan still needs to be approved by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin before it is sent to President Joe Biden for his signature,” the report says.

It is noted that once the plans are finalized, the Patriot systems are expected to ship quickly in the coming days. However, it is not clear how many missile launchers will be sent.

A typical Patriot battery includes a radar set that detects and tracks targets, computers, power generating equipment, an engagement contr station and up to eight launchers, each hding four ready to fire missiles.

Unlike smaller air defense systems, Patriot missile batteries need much larger crews, requiring dozens of personnel to prerly erate them. The training for Patriot missile batteries normally takes several months.
