Ukrnafta starts installing solar power plants at its gas stations

PrJSC Ukrnafta has begun implementing “green” technologies at its gas stations and installed the first rooftop solar power plant (SPP) at a gas station in Obolonsky district of Kyiv.

“This will not only save on electricity, but also reduce the dependence of the gas station on the centralized power supply, that is, make the gas station almost autonomous,” the company’s director Serhiy Koretsky wrote on Facebook on Monday.

According to him, the SPP’s capacity is 25 kW – this is 44 panels connected to a modern inverter with artificial intelligence functions, which currently operate exclusively for the internal consumption of the complex.

"Of course, this is just the beginning. Of course, this is the first small step. But it is important that every company and every Ukrainian take such practical actions for the energy sustainability of Ukraine. Ukrnafta will actively develop this strategy," the CEO emphasized.

As he noted, one such solar power plant allows saving hundreds of thousands of hryvnias per year, and from March to October, it will be able to cover more than half of the total consumption of gas stations.

"Modern solar panels have a service life of 20-25 years, and maintenance costs are minimal, which makes them an effective long-term investment," he added.

In addition, solar power plants as a clean and environmentally friendly source of energy meets the goals of the company's ESG strategy.

As reported, the OKKO gas station network installed solar power plants with a total capacity of 4.8 MW at more than 200 of its gas stations.

Ukrnafta is Ukraine's largest oil extraction company and operates a national network of filling stations. In March 2024, the company took over the management of Glusco assets, and now operates 547 filling stations – 462 of its own and 85 under management.

The company is implementing a comprehensive program to renew operations and modernize the format of its filling stations. Since February 2023, Ukrnafta has been offering its own fuel vouchers and NAFTA Cards, which are sold to both legal entities and individuals through Ukrnafta-Postach LLC.

Ukrnafta holds 92 licenses for industrial development of deposits. It has 1,832 oil and 154 gas production wells on its balance.

The largest shareholder in Ukrnafta is Naftogaz Ukrainy, which holds a 50% plus one share.

In November 2022, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine decided to transfer the corporate rights of the company, previously owned by private shareholders, to the state. The Ministry of Defense now oversees these shares.
