After the second forum Grain from Ukraine in May 2024, Ukraine supplied 47,000 tonnes of various food products to African countries, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Vitaliy Koval said.
The minister noted that at this stage of the implementation of the Grain from Ukraine initiative of the president of Ukraine, the range of food products supplied to countries in need was expanded.
"Today it is not only wheat and flour. Today such products as sunflower oil have been added to our range. This is important. A promising area for expansion is dairy products. We understand that finished products should be on the tables of those countries that need them today," Koval emphasized.
He added that many countries, due to their situation, do not have the ability to process wheat into flour, so Ukraine's task is to determine the needs of the population of each country in need, as well as the state that helps them.
Speaking about expanding the geography of deliveries, Koval specified that among the recipients of Ukrainian food in Africa are Djibouti, Mauritania, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Recently, the Middle East has been added to them.
"The initiative demonstrates its effectiveness and significance… It is important that the recipients who receive aid understand that even in war conditions they have the right to an extension (of food aid). It is this extension (of such support) that Ukrainians are guaranteeing today," the minister summed up.
