Ukraine needs to import 2.5 billion cubic meters of gas to prepare for winter – expert
This assessment was provided by gas market analyst at ExPro Consulting, Mikhail Svischo, in a commentary for Ukrinform.
“If by the beginning of April Ukraine manages to restore production volumes to the level of January 2025 and avoid new losses, then in the most optimistic scenario by the beginning of the next autumn-winter period we will need to import 2.5-3 billion cubic meters,” Svischo noted.
The specialist also emphasized that purchases on European markets provide a reliable source of natural gas supplies for Ukraine.

“Given the significant gas needs for next winter, it would be wise for Ukraine to enter into long-term contracts to protect itself from fluctuations in spot prices. However, financing the purchase of natural gas remains an important issue,” he added.
As reported, in February, compared to January, Ukraine increased gas imports by 12 times – to 511.8 million cubic meters.
